Portland
Portland is a thriving
centre, making the most of its historic streetscapes
and picturesque, glistening bay. It was here in
1834 that the pioneering Henty brothers, recognising
the commercial potential of the ocean resources,
land and advantages of a natural deepwater port,
established Victoria's first white settlement.
Today the city is south-west Victoria's only major
deepwater commercial port, exporting hundreds
of thousands of tonnes of product annually and
home to major industry.
